HYALURONIC ACID
It was isolated about 70 years ago. The name comes from its glassy transparent appearance (from Greek hyalos = glass). It is a colorless, transparent, hygroscopic liquid with the consistency of a thick gel. Half of all hyaluronic acid contained in the human body is found in the skin. As we age, the acid content in the skin decreases significantly, which is one of the reasons why wrinkles appear. Hyaluronic acid produced biotechnologically is a compound valued in cosmetology, because it is based on gels used to fill wrinkles and to produce implants, e.g. for breast enlargement. In orthopedics, hyaluronic acid plays an important role in replenishing synovial fluid, improving the mobility of elbow, knee and other joints. After the age of 40, rheumatic pain may occur, limiting mobility. Degenerative changes, injuries, and excessive loads on the joints cause the destruction of articular cartilage. We may also encounter symptoms of joint dysfunction much earlier, e.g. if we practice sports or in specific professional groups exposed to overload, such as: rescuers, professional athletes, miners. Factors that increase the risk of movement limitations include: overweight, injuries and, for example, meniscus surgery. Pain and limited joint mobility are eliminated when additional amounts of hyaluronic acid (1% sodium hyaluronate) are introduced directly into the joint cavity using a needle and syringe. An allergy test is not required before using the first dose. After application, the preparation does not cause allergic reactions such as irritations, allergies, redness or burning.
